Faythe Levine & Sam Macon are the two awesome directors of Sign Painters, a documentary about the trade of sign painting in America. They also released a book under the same name in October 2012, published by Princeton Architectural Press.
Faythe Levine is an artist, photographer, flimmaker, and curator based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is the founder of Art vs. Craft and curates Sky High Gallery. Levine’s first film and book, Handmade Nation: The Rise of DIY, Art, Craft, and Design was published by Princeton Architectural Press.
Sam Macon is a Milwaukee born, Chicago based filmmaker, photographer, and writer. He received his BFA in film from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and directs music videos, commercials, short films, and documentaries.
We hosted the screening of Sign Painters on November 30, at the Urban Spree Gallery in Berlin, as the inauguration event of MAKE! Skilled Hands. More than 200 people attended, confirming a renewed interest in the sign painting trade in Europe as well.
